Frieze!

The intervention Frieze! (2015) took over the engine room, the very heart of the Cold Storage (Hamecarer) where I painted the abandoned operation system. Treating the machines as a ready-made object enabled me to work on the playfulness of the situation.

By spraying a new palette of pastel colours on the pipes and gauges, I injected the cold storage memory that they were operating for. Of course, by doing so, I inevitably turned these machines into absurd devices, in the sense that they lost their functionality. But they gained the power to intensify the frozen state of a place that no longer operates.
